Orientation for the Caregiver

building-blocksExplain why you would like to form this supportive relationship with her:

  • Share with her your own experiences about the potential of children
  • Share what is happening in terms of her child’s brain development right now and the simple things she can do that will enable her child to have a good start in life (see some facts, here)
  • Talk about how the relationship could work over the next 4 months and see if this will work for her. Let her know that you’d like to be there as a friend, companion and support, helping her to access information and resources that could help her on this journey, as well as being someone who will listen and care

(!) At this stage do not mention the possibility of the relationship continuing after the 4 months. If you decide not to continue the relationship, she should not experience it as a rejection.
